Paper Crafts has taken four of the most popular styles today and packed a whole special issue with them.
Sweet.
I have sort of a "home base" style. My old friend. {Like... from when I started with this whole card gig back in the 00's.} My first friend. (Back when I was first given a Stampin' Up catalog and read the darned thing cover to cover.) Always there for me... even when I stray. (To clean and graphic... it's like my style mistress*.) The one I always come back to. Hello, again, classy & elegant.
When I'm going for a classy and elegant feel, I tend to work with things like
glitter (refined... not gaudy),
luxe ribbons (silky, satiny... not cutesy),
classic images (beautifully drawn and detailed... not whimsical),
and timeless fonts and sentiments (not too trendy).
For this project, I challenged myself to make a quick classy & elegant card. Sometimes I find myself spending a bit longer on elegant cards... trying to add just the right touches... enough, but not too much.
I do find that multiples can work really well to create an elegant feel. So I took a package of these glittery, double layered butterflies from Martha Stewart and did the unthinkable... I used almost all of it on one card.
Nearly the entire package.
On one card.
Gasp, I know.
But so worth it.
I used one of my fave go-to papers for elegant pieces - vellum - stamped a vine image on it in versamark for an extra layer of depth without fussiness, and layered it beneath a transparency card base. Sort of a modern take on elegant.
Hey, classy and elegant doesn't have to be boring, folks... just classy and elegant.
To celebrate Card Style, we're doing it up big.
BIG.
$350 worth in prizes kind of big.

Yeah, so I just googled "other word for man mistress."
Because I had no idea what word that would be, yet I needed it to finish that sentence.
And this is what google gave me: gigilo sugardaddy homewrecker and the one that made me laugh the most... fancy man
Ummmm... what?? Not that I actually need to know this information, and hopefully neither do you, but hilarious nonetheless. By the way... just in case you were wondering... not thinkin' any of these would fit into the category of classy & elegant... hahaha!

Simply gorgeous!! Love the use of acetate, and those butterflies are just beautiful.

I absolutely adore watching other people create clean & graphic and classy & elegant cards, because for the life of me I can't seem to get it right. ReplyDeleteWOW, oh WOW, what a beautiful card! I describe my style as "cheap". I use whatever I have leftover from scrapbooking projects for my cards. I laughed at you using the whole pack of MS butterflies on one card, b/c I am too cheap to do that, but the result is breathtaking! TFS!

lol. Anyway, I find classy and elegant intimidating, just not who I am. But you sure do make a convincing argument for loving it, between the gorgeous card and your description. Takes a lot of skill to find that perfect balance, as you say. You have it! I'm realizing as I go through this week that card making is a balance between expressing who you are, but also thinking about the style of the recipient and what they'd enjoy. Lucky person who receives your card.
