Papertrey Ink December Release in Review!

It's beginning to look a lot like...
the end of December's Papertrey Ink release :)

And that means it's time to wrap it up by blitzing you with loads of project pics, right?

I always lead off with one of my favorites, so let's get the ball rolling with Quilled Elegance, shall we?

I so love all the possibilities with this one.  I went for a bit of a funky color scheme, picked right off of one of my pinterest color scheme pins.  Something along the lines of Enchanted Evening, Raspberry Fizz , Aqua Mist, Soft Stone, and Melon Berry.

I did my best to keep it lighthearted and just color randomly... I kinda think that as long as you like the colors together, you really can't go wrong with the coloring on this one.

This image is one of my favorites... the upper and lower portions are just one image together so you stamp that first and then add in the sentiment.  The lines are straight every time that way... love.

My project using Framed Out #11 is totally different but still has lots of colors...

Enchanted Evening got a lot of play from me this time around :)
This time I paired it with Raspberry Fizz, Soft Stone, and Pumpkin Pie (SU).

My thought here was to start with a very heavy repetition of hearts (just one of the hearts from Framed Out #11) at the top of the card and have them tapering off and sort of falling gently toward the bottom of the card.  The last heart leads the eye right to the sentiment from Think Big Favorites #23...

That one just makes me happy... I so love a simple design :)

Moving right along... this cutie pie set (even has a cute name!)... Love Potion...

Takes me right back to Organic Chem, sophomore year ;)

I brought out my trusty watercolors on this one, stamping the beakers with a slight overlap so that I could mix the colors.  This set includes a few different images for filling in the bottom of the various beakers and bottles, but I wanted to use the watercolors so that I could really bring out that "mixed" area of green.

Is it just me, or does this set make anyone else think of The Big Bang Theory? {I know, I know... my second tv reference during this release.}

I think I'd like to make another one where the row of bottles and mixed colors goes all the way across the card... already working that idea out in my head ;)

Last up for this month, a little something using the new Sending My Love set...

I so love the sentiments in this set.  They're a bit more than your typical short sentiment (which I love) and the designs... totally loving them.

The white panel has a light background stamped with Herringbone with the sentiment in True Black Over that.  I added the little Orange Zest heart just for a an extra little pop of color.  It toally makes the card for me :)

It's time to wrap December up!  The rest of the team is doing just that, so check 'em out...

With All My Heart

Welcome back, folks!

It's the second design team group post of Papertrey Ink's December release and it's such a cute one :)
{You'll find all of today's new products available for purchase on December 15th.}

December at PTI means one thing and one thing only... that's right...
Valentine's Day, haha!

Here's what I came up with using the brand new With All My Heart...

For my first project, I went straight for a little Valentine's Day treat.

Now... a Valentine's gift from that special someone is always, always welcome.  But getting a treat from a friend when you weren't expecting anything is super sweet... that's what I had in mind with this idea.  Something small and useful, but cute and non-sugary.

And, of course... I knew my girl friends would appreciate some cute packaging :)
A glassine bag and some washi tape always does the trick.
Love that you can see just enough of what's inside...

A little faux sticker seal stamped with a Honey Bees image finishes the outside off and also gives a hint as to what's inside...

Not gonna lie... this sweet heart image totally inspired this treat.

It was super easy to stamp the heart image and trim out just the "Be Mine" sentiment... and it's the perfect size to fit right on that tube of Burt's Bees :)  I reinked the same image in True Black, this time stamping it on a white cardstock heart cut with one of the new Limitless Layers Hearts dies.

A little striped washi tape (from Target) adds a bit of a twist and a tag made with the Tag Sale #5 die and a bit of Summer Sunrise paper gives it a little base to sit on.

I've got a few of these tucked away... waiting to hand off to some sweet friends :)

Next up... a clean and simple take on With All My Heart...

And there it went... the very last of my white embossing powder.
After more than 10 years of stamping with only a small number of real mishaps, I finally did it...
dumped the wrong embossing powder back into the wrong jar.

Good bye, clear embossing powder.
Good bye, white embossing powder.
Rest in peace.

I keep forgetting to order more but now I *must*... you know I can't go without it ;)

In the meantime, I eeked out the very last of what I had left to come up with this cheery card.

When I heat emboss on clear cardstock I always receive a few questions about how to emboss on the  without it warping or how to attach the cardstock without the adhesive showing.  If you've struggled with those issues, this is the card for you :)

I started with a Raspberry Fizz card base, then trimmed a panel of Orange Zest to fit the front. Die cutting both layers at once (using the new Limitless Layers Heart collection) makes it easy to be able to line the panel up on the card.

The clear cardstock panel (heat embossed with that heart image) is adhered right in between the two panels, leaving the inside of the card clean.

Cool, right?

I added some tiny flags cut with the new Countdown Details dies and stamped with some of the tiny sentiments from With All My Heart for a sweet little touch...

Fun times, fun times!
And there's even more to be seen today with the rest of the design team...

Thanks for indulging me in my bright little Valentines... I always seem to struggle with the softer colors, so brights are the only way to do Valentine's Day for me :)

More fun things to come tomorrow when we wrap up December's release!
Until then...

Embroidered Blooms

Happy, happy, happy December!

It's happy time around here... time to roll out December's Papertrey Ink release :)
As tradition holds, we're bringing you a big ol' design team group post to celebrate. {For all of this month's new products, head on over to Papertrey Ink on December 15th.}

Today's post brings you projects featuring an all new set... Embroidered Blooms.

It sounds like such a pretty, feminine set, doesn't it?
And it so is.

But, seriously... all I could think when I spotted that "happy" sentiment was Duck Dynasty.

Now.
I know some of you are all, "Um... huh...?"

So let me just tell you... it's practically the greatest television show of all time.
Or at least my husband thinks so ;)
And, I can admit it... it's awesome.

I mean, if you love Downton Abbey then... wait.
Scratch that.
Bad example.
Duck Dynasty is pretty much like the anti-Downton Abbey.
In a good way ;)
{And I love both, so no hating here.}

So the deal with the guys of Duck Dynasty is that they make duck calls for a living so, obviously, they're *totally* into hunting.  Of all kinds. Including things like squirrels.  And frogs.

The patriarch of the family is known for his use of the phrase "Happy, happy, happy."
And thus... these cards were born :)

I went for simple and masculine... basically going for something that my husband would appreciate receiving.

I started off with the repeated sentiment (Limeade Ice, Simply Chartreuse, and Ripe Avocado) and added the deer image from In the Meadow.  A little In the Meadow die cut grounds the deer with a place to stand.

For card #2 I traded the deer for a duck image (from On the Farm) and added my own version of camouflage.  I flipped over a few of the Embroidered Blooms images (the smaller leaf images) and used the reverse side to stamp with.

My goal was to just keep the spacing between the images somewhat uniform. I'm pretty happy with how my first attempt at camouflage turned out!

In my third card, I added a squirrel image (also from In the Meadow).  The Embroidered Blooms leaves soften the edge.

The leaves and flowers in this set are separated into 2 or 3 parts so that you can mix up the colors between stamps.  I kept the colors of the leaves consistent with the variation of the colors in the sentiments... Simply Chartreuse and Limeade Ice on the upper leaves, Ripe Avocado and Simply Chartreuse on the lower leaves.

I like how repeating the colors kind of ties all the elements together.

I have to say... I really did enjoy taking this set in a bit of an off direction!  Always good to remember that these sets are meant for YOU to make them YOURS... anything goes.  Feminine sets don't have to stay that way.  Holiday sets don't have to stay that way.  You get the idea.

They're YOURS.
The design team's interpretation is just a starting point.
Stretch them out. Don't be afraid to make them work for you.

And now, for a different take...

Embroidered Blooms meets Ribbons & Bows.

I kept with a modern feel on this one... pairing one of those bold sentiments that I love from Embroidered Blooms with one of the delicate Ribbons & Bows images.

A little shadowing technique (definitely thinking Betsy's Make it Monday video inspired the shadowing!) on the sentiment adds some depth.  I used Soft Stone to stamp the sentiment the first time and stamped right over that with Smokey Shadow ink.

I mixed up the metallics on this one, using gold embossing powder on the ribbon and a little silver circle for the accent.  I know some of you think mixing metallics is a no-no, but no :)
Give it a shot.  Definitely a modern twist.

There you have it... my takes on Embroidered Blooms.  Check out what the rest of the team has come up with right here...
