Button Boutique

"Button, button... who's got the button?" {Anyone else remember that line from repeated upon repeated upon repeated viewings of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? Or was that just me?} But back to buttons. Button Boutique, to be exact. Nichole is debuting this new Papertrey Ink set over on her blog today and everyone on the DT is bringing you an all new project. And I have to say... this set... it's pretty stinkin' amazing.

I hemmed and hawed for quite awhile about how best to approach this set until one of the sentiments hit me... Cute as a Button. So perfect for a little baby card. And who do I know that's having a baby? Oh... only my friend who is pregnant with not one baby... not two babies... but THREE babies. So I made a little Cute as a Button button card. And once I made one... I had to make another. And then another. And then there were three... one for each little baby book. Little girl's button card in shades of Sweet Blush and Melon Berry... Little boy's card in shades of Aqua Mist and Ocean Tides... And another little boy card in New Leaf and Spring Moss... Sweet right? I thought it would be nice to have a keepsake for each baby as opposed to a single keepsake. The new Button Card die made it super quick and easy to cut three little cards out of the coasters... love the extra depth and dimension the coaster material give. A new must have for me for tags, etc. And I have to say... all the stamps in this set just work so well together. Especially for someone like me who has trouble making a decision {can anyone relate?}. All the little pieces you need to decorate your button cards are all right there... perfectly sized. I just mixed and matched the card designs, then added the little vintage sentiments that seemed to fit the baby theme. To attach the buttons, here's a few tips. First, stick the buttons down with a small glue dot. I did this to the sides of the holes so as not to interfere with stitching them on. Once they're stuck down with a glue dot or two, it's easy to move the card around and pick it up, etc, to stitch the buttons down. I placed the card on a foam mat and used my needle tool to poke a hole through the card in each hole of the buttons. Having the holes already poked through made it super easy to pull a needle threaded with button twine through with no problems. If I wasn't giving this for such a special occasion, I might have just threaded the buttons and stuck them on, but this is a memento that's meant to be saved, so I stitched them on and tied each one behind the card. I packaged the cards up in a special stitched glassine bag and wrapped it up with twine and a fun tag from the original Friendship Jar set. And... the baggie makes the perfect spot to tuck a sure-to-be-appreciated gift card. A much better way to package a gift card than the little wrapper that comes with it from the store, don't you think? :) I know all the other DT gals have made something awesome, so be sure to check them all out...
