PTI August Release in Review!

Here we go again, kids :)

It's my favorite day of the month... we're wrapping up Papertrey Ink's August release with some big ol' monster posts today.  {Apparently I'm not a more-is-more kind of girl when it comes to designing, but I'm definitely a more-is-more kind of girl when it comes to making up posts with an obscene number of pictures.} All of the new August products will be available for purchase tonight.

So let's get right to it.
First up {coughcoughmyfavoritecoughcough}...

This little modernista features the new Framed Out #7 set.  Each of the sentiments in this set have 3 phrases stacked together.  My first idea out of the gate was to create a single sentiment on three colors.

It came out kind of banner-y so I decided to emphasize that and bulk it up by layering it on the new Background Basics: Houndstooth set. I added the contrasting Summer Sunrise base to really punch things up.  The buttons add a quirky twist.  {Sidenote... when I want to add buttons but don't want the button holes to show, I add rhinestones or studs to the centers for a modern touch.}

This one's pretty bold and it might not be for everyone, but it really makes me happy.  It kind of feels like an outfit I'd see on Pinterest and wonder if I could pull off :)

I kept the Houndstooth idea and combined it with Heart-2-Heart #7 next...

It's stamped exactly the same (True Black ink on white cardstock) but I added a layer of vellum to this one... loving how it softens the look.

I added a double layer of sentiments by using the "thanks" from the new Thanks All Ways and "for all your help" from the new Counting my Blessings set.  Both of those sets were super versatile for me this week, by the way.

This Heart-to-Heart set has several sets of leaves.  I used the largest stem to create a little four point flower pattern and added the rhinestones for some emphasis.  Thinking I'll be coming back to this pattern again :)

Man... this month I just used the heck outta my vellum :)

If you haven't tried it... do it. It's a super easy way to add lots of depth and unique effects just by pairing it with the supplies that you already have.

This time I came back to one of my Halloween projects {the Mr.Bones bottle tag} and the idea of placing a layer in between the card base and the vellum...

I paired this idea with the new Autumn Hills set and one of the new Counting My Blessings dies.

The key here is making sure that there is at least a bit of contrast between the card base and the cardstock that you use for the die cut.  In this case, I wanted the die cut word to be subtle, so I went with a Soft Stone card base and cut the word out of white cardstock.

The little house image snuggles right in there above "blessed."  I stamped both images right on the vellum and went ahead and used PTI's Dark Chocolate ink instead of Memento.  Memento bled too much on the vellum, so I heat set the Dark Chocolate images before I colored the house in with Copics.  I didn't have too many troubles between the Copics and dye ink... I was just careful not to spend too much time going over the images with the Copics.

I just had to keep with the Copics for Sunflower Bouquet... no judging.  I'm no Copic expert ;)

I really just play around with them.  You can tell that instead of choosing a standard light source, I tend to just assume that every image I'm coloring is in an amazingly well and evenly area :)
Voila.
All my light source problems are solved ;)

I borrowed a sentiment from the new Think Big Favorites #19 and went ahead and stamped that to the side. To give this one a little something extra I knew I wanted to emboss the "thankful" Counting My Blessings die but you *definitely* have to stamp the sentiment first {why, yes, I do know this from experience, thankyouverymuch}.

I went ahead and temporarily adhered the bouquet image down before I ran the whole thing through my Big Shot so that  the full word was embossed across the card and bouquet.  It's subtle, but I love the extra detail.

So there it is... August is done and done :)
But it's not *really* done until you check out the rest of the August projects from design team...
