Big Ticket Basics

Welcome back, folks!

The Papertrey Team is gearing up for April's release and bringing you the first of this month's group posts.  {All of the new PTI products used today will be available at Papertrey Ink beginning April 15.}

Today's featured set is a sweet one...

Big Ticket Basics.
It's pretty stinkin' cute :)

It has loads of sentiments that fit within the coordinating die plus some extra images to mix in.
The coordinating die is in the same style as the original Just the Ticket Border Die.  Good grief, I just love how the edges look after they're torn...

April's release is always a double play for me... release week plus prepping for a double birthday.
Yup.
Birthday "twins."
Same birthday, 5 years apart ;)

So since I've had birthday decorations on the mind, I went ahead and pulled out Big Ticket Basics to whip up a little sign for my birthday kiddos.  I used three of the ticket images for this little project, the first one being the Best Day Ever image above.

I have several of these antique signs in a few different sizes.  This one fits a 3.5x5" picture pretty well (just a bit of trimming) and makes for a super cute changeable decoration.  I knew I wanted to incorporate the Big Ticket Basics calendar stamp on the photo but stamping on photos can be a bit tricky... enter a favorite little trick of mine - clear cardstock.

I trimmed 2 panels of clear cardstock down to size, then lay one atop this picture and put both on my work table.  Instead of stamping right on the photo, I just stamped on the clear cardstock.  Stamping on a slick surface (such as the picture) can be difficult... the clear cardstock gave me a way to have more than one shot at getting everything just right.  Here I used StazOn Opaque Cotton White ink and, as it turned out, I only needed one shot ;)

Just a note about the calendar image... Big Ticket Basics also includes the little circle and rectangle images for you to use to "circle" the date you want to highlight.  Just a fun little detail.  I finished things off by adding the year image from the Mini Scrapbook Series: Library Ledger set.

But wait... there's another side ;)

I added another ticket behind the first one... love that the "Hooray" image has a little spot to add the date.  A little red and white button on each side adds just a small detail with a punch of color.

A few Headline numbers (cut with the previously released die) in their birth date finished things off. I added the numbers to a clear overlay as well... that way I can use the pictures with or without the embellishments.

Since this one is for both my daughter and son, I was definitely aiming for something fun, but clean and simple... not too girly.  Eli was super excited to see this and already picked the perfect spot in the kitchen to display it, so I think I hit the right balance ;)

For my second project I definitely wanted to show Big Ticket Basics in action on a card...

My goal was to really feature the tickets so I went all out and stamped up three different strips of tickets using Melon Berry, Sweet Blush, and Berry Sorbet.  To tie all the colors together I put them on a neutral base (Soft Stone patterned paper) and used Berry Sorbet ink for all the images.

Big and bold isn't generally my go-to style, but I have to say... I love the effect here.  The tickets can really hold their own on a card :)

I left the little date spot open on this one... that way I can personalize it with the date when I hand it off for a birthday.

The Big Ticket Basics set comes with a little "x" fill out the "You Are" ticket... obviously, I thought x'ing all of them would be fun.

The "Sending You" tickets received a few details in Dark Chocolate ink. I also put the brightest buttons on the bottom tickets.  Those details help draw the eye to the bottom ticket and give the eye more of a focal point.

I really enjoyed playing around with the new Big Ticket Basics set!  This was definitely a fun one.  I had several more ideas on deck that I'll have to come back to later ;)

But... there's more Big Ticket Basics ideas to be had right now with the rest of the design team...

I had to laugh when I read about your birthday "twins" because my brother and I were born on the same day too, only 9 years apart! No other siblings in between either! And to top it off, my Grandma was born on the same day. All April 19th babies! With it being all our birthdays and frequently around Easter, it made for some busy but fun times!

Love your pictures and how you incorporated the new stamp set! Great idea! Great card too!
