witticisms by Jess Witty

All righty, people... I'm deep in the midst of moving. And I'm starting to remember why I don't do it. As in, move. I moved once as a kid, but the way I see it, that doesn't count. Cause when you're a kid, you don't really move... your parents move you. {Or, at least, you don't pack. Which is basically the most tedius and time consuming part, right?} Then I moved to college. Sorta counts, but let's be real here... that little Texas A&M dorm room only held like a hatchback's amount of stuff. This probably counts as like 1/100th of a move. Then I moved home from college. Except then, I basically got married and moved straight into my husband's house. This was a sweet deal because we got married, went on our honeymoon, and came home to wedding gifts like dishes and stuff already in our living room. {I did have to move them all the way over to the kitchen, I guess.} So, yeah. Haven't so much moved an entire household before. Ever. And did I mention that we have 3 kids now? Sheesh. The packing. A good friend of mine got me started on the kitchen tonight. I nearly passed out when she suggested packing the plates (those would be the ones from the wedding) in a laundry basket. As in, set them in the basket, poke a tablecloth around them, then set the basket next to you in the car and drive on over to the new kitchen. Seriously? Because I thought packing involved wrapping stuff. Protecting it. All that. It seems that's not actually all that necessary when you're just moving across town. And you just put your stuff in laundry baskets. Who knew? But on to the card... Today's project is another little Patchwork Scrapwork card. {If you're interested in the detailed how-to, just go back to this post.} I busted out all of my little Studio Calico scraps for this one... Anthropology is one of my favorite favorite favorite new lines, so even the bitty scraps tend to stick around. Wish me luck with the packing! Back to the boxes...

I too have trouble with moving, as in the protecting everything packing. I label important boxes "FRAGILE" but then if you label too many boxes fragile your husband no longer believes that they are.

You do tend to get to a point when the sorting no longer matters, you just shove it all in there. Clothes in garbage bags, bits and bobs in those $1 eco bags from the grocery store. Good luck!

yuck, I hate moving! but it usually involves some major purging and that's a good thing.

thanks for sharing this fabbie card. I've been meaning to try this quilt so thanks for linking back to the step out.

Moving is horrible. After the last move, I swore to my husband that we are NEVER moving again until we can afford someone to carry every item for us!!

My husband has tons of electronic bits and bobs that needed to be packed, we have books out the ying yang. My husband is a firearms collector, so we had the complication that once there was one gun in the car, we cold not leave the car unattended, so one person then finished all the carrying until the car was loaded.
We moved using our vehicles and a flatbed trailer! We also had birds. It was quite hilarious when my sister and I drove across town pulling the trailer with the bird cages on it (empty of course!) People were practically driving off the road to see if there were birds in the cages!!

Anyway, I have tones of sympathy for you!!

Yes, those laundry baskets work for moving china across town. Did that once for a friend & everything survived. Best part of moving is acutally getting rid of some of the stuff - easier than moving it. Pretty card.

Oh I totally love this! When my hubby and I moved I claimed I would never do it again. So not fun! Good luck girl!

Girl I wish I was close to help as I am know deemed queen of moving by Scott. Now that we have I believe 7 under our belt since we married...I've got it down to a science. The most important thing...label label label. A sharpie marker was my best friend and made unpacking a breeze when you know what was where. I'm sure though you'll do fine! ;-)
