Mustache Love

My husband has a mustache. I think it's sexy. {This would be the intro suggested by said mustache-wearing husband.} My reply? "Yeah... you know my dad reads this, right?" You should see the smirk on him right now. {The husband, not the dad. It's right below the mustache.} The above is proof. {Of the mustache, not the smirk.} Shockingly, today's topic at hand? {Or would that be mouth?} The mustache. You can read all about my take on the icon as a trend over on super fab Moxie Fab World. {edited to add... all righty, so I realized that I scheduled this post to go up an entire day early. D'OH! So, you'll find my post at Moxie Fab World tomorrow.) You'll find one of my favorite projects as of late (a trendy mustache card) as well as a shot at winning this moxie fab stamp set from My Cute Stamps... I saw this set at CHA and walked away with lots of mustachiod projects swimming around in my head. I mean, come on... there's even an ode to Chaplin himself in that set... But what did my kiddo see when he spied me working away on mustaches? I kid you not. He saw mustaches and went straight for the chef's hat and apron. {Dramatic type, that one. Proof below.} Needless to say, I think the mustachio'd party favor idea was a hit. Have to say, I'm super glad cause I think it's super cute. Not to mention super easy. The key to making this project so easy is the stamp set. I used a light colored pigment ink to stamp the images on black and brown felt. The image was light, but certainly dark enough to use as a guide for cutting around. Once they're cut out, the stamped side becomes the back side. I added a bit of ScorTape there to make them self-adhesive. Love the ScorTape on them because the backing just stays on the adhesive until you pull it off, making it easy to stash your 'staches away in a treat bag. If you don't have a 'stache set in your stash {wow... I'm just really crackin' myself up with those, aren't I?} you could always make a template from one you've drawn or printed off. Might take a few more minutes, but definitely still quick and easy. Too bad we already had a cooking themed birthday party a few years back... this would have been the *perfect* addition. I sent out the invites on recipe cards, made aprons for the kiddos out of dish cloths, and had them assemble their own tiny pizzas and birthday cakes... totally recommend it. Chef's hats such as Eli is wearing can be found super cheap at party supply stores in the catering aisle. Last year's shindig was an art party where our wee artists were given their own canvases to create thier masterpieces on. A simple finished art project served as their guide but they were free to do it however they wanted. A little mustache on each of them would have really put the artist look over the top. So what can I do for this year's party...? Something where a mustache would be the perfect accessory. And did I mention that Eli shares a birthday with his soon-to-be 2 year old sister? Yeah... that can complicate birthday party themes. But I have to say that I think a tiny toddler mustache on Noelle would be perfectly adorable. Any ideas? PS... Don' forget... stop by Moxie Fab World to check out more mustaches and take a chance to win your own set of 'staches! PPS... Just a note that My Cute Stamps will be donating all of the proceeds from the sales of this cutie pie stamp set, Konniciwa {which I have and *love*}, that are made this week to the relief effort in Japan. Sweet set, sweet company.

Very cute! I posted recently about the Batman (Gotham City) party we did and of course there was Jessie from Toy Story (for my 4yo dd)... everything handmade. At this age though with opposites you could do a Knight and Princess party (boys can create swords and shields from poster booard and cover with aluminum foil and fight a *dragon* while girls dress up as princesses and play/dance/sing... at 2 they'll create some of their own fun!

1. your husband is funny :)

2. I think we did the same chefs' party - right down to the dish cloth-aprons!

3. how about a circus party? Ringmasters+mustaches=best friends.

I'm suggesting a Magic Show with the guys wearing top hats and the girls can be all fancy as the assistants...Magic wands and feathers, plus scarves make for great tricks...Especially if you have some curtains for the "stage"...Girls can sing and dance to music, and pose for "photos"..Play coins to make disappear. I think there are some easy tricks on the internet.
Easy as pie, and the kids all enjoy the tricks.

Jess, you've TOTALLY got to do a Luigi birthday party! You know, as in, Mario Bros Luigi. Kimberley Crawford blogged the idea a week or two ago and I am SO doing this for my little man's 5th birthday in October. Completely adorable and you already have the mustaches ready to go! Here's the link to Kimberley's post:

Good luck with whatever theme you go with. Can't wait to see pics of Noelle with that adorable 'stache!!!

I told my friend about the fake mustaches on the sticks and she made those for her Carnival themed wedding a couple of weeks ago! :)

That is a SUPER cute picture of Eli! :o)
How about a cowboy party, with dress-up as sheriff, cowboys, "gunslingers", southern belles, etc? It would be fun to do your own version of those "old-timey" sepia tone pictures...

Just last week, I received the Mustache set from My Cute Stamps and I'm OBSESSED! Who knew mustaches would be such a trend - and your hubby rocks it well:-)

If it were at all appropriate, I would wear one of your felt 'staches to work - just for fun.

Thanks for the 'stache-tastic inspiration!

You could do a wild west theme with the mustaches.

Hot dogs and beans and trail mix. The favors you could tie in a handkerchief.

I like the Super mario bros idea too!
