350 Cards & Gifts

I love a good mail day, don't you?

Walking out to my mailbox... escaping the cacophony of sound that is my home... bare feet on hot concrete... and opening a brown paper package to find this...

With one of my favorite projects *ever* on the cover.
{That would be the little button shadowbox.}

And getting to share the cover with two of my favorite people, Kim K {super cute cupcake topper} and Maren {cutie pie lemonade card}, no less.

That's a good mail day.

You might find it funny how my little shadowbox came about. Because the first time I submitted it, it wasn't a shadowbox at all. See?

I believe I made it for a call to make projects featuring your favorite embellishments.

Guess what mine was?
{Buttons, anyone?}

I made it and even though it's a little bit out of my normal style... something about it just made me happy. I thought the buttons all together, without a true outlined form, just seemed so carefree and fun.

Apparently, our faithful editors did not agree and my favorite card became my favorite reject :)
{That's the way it goes sometimes, right?}

I held back on ever blogging about my little favorite because I wanted to give it another shot.
I mean, come on.
Gluing all those buttons down took time, people :)

Enter the call to submit projects to 350 Cards & Gifts.
And my super sneaky plan to get that card published.

I simply trimmed it down, repositioned a few buttons, glued it inside the shadowbox, and renamed my "Color My World Card" to "Color My World Shadowbox."

I know.
Sly must be my middle name since my super sneaky plan worked.

Apparently, I snuck my way right on to the cover. I really have no idea how that happened, because I can assure you, this issue is filled with pretty darned sweet projects. You're gonna love it.

Later, friends!

I love hearing stories like this! I think I actually love it more as a shadow box than a card as well. Beautiful job!!

I do love that shadowbox of buttons. Gives me hopes now that I have entered the world of submitting (and being rejected, lol)... That was my *goal* for this year :)... hmmm, I do not think I planned on the rejection part (ha!)

I absolutely loved it as a card, but I guess the editors were right- it rocks even more as a shadowbox! Thanks for sharing a great and inexpensive idea! I see "gift" in my families (siblings) future, maybe I can make them in their home decor colors to be sure they are hung (you thought you were sly...) lol

PS. I forgot to add...and that shadowbox totally "ROCKS" the cover of the Papercrafts special issue! Congratulations!
